Question: Why am I getting an error when converting reinforcement to actual reinforcement bars?

Answer: You may encounter the error 'Conversion of reinforcement was not done because the Type of zone of shear reinforcement is set to 'None' in the Design defaults' after converting selected reinforcement to actual bars. This most commonly occurs due to specific reinforcement calculation settings.

When opening the default dimensioning settings, you need to set the display setting to 'Advanced'. Within the 'General' tab, you can find the setting 'Type of zone for corrected shear reinforcement'. This setting offers three different options, which are explained below:

  1. None: The selected transverse reinforcement (Aswm, prov.) will follow Aswm, req. This means there will be no practical distribution.
  2. Geometrical: The span of each element can be divided into multiple zones - defined within the template - with one critical spacing used in each zone.
  3. Spacing: SCIA will calculate the length of each zone based on the spacing, and depending on cost-effectiveness, it will make a decision.

As mentioned above, conversion to actual reinforcement will not be possible if the 'None' option is selected. As soon as you change this setting to 'Geometrical' or 'Spacing', the reinforcement conversion will be carried out.
